Replacing Unrecoverable Chassis Rails

Post by Ivan Turner »

HI, One of the options I am looking at for an eligible chassis is one that requires replacement rail sections, specifically both outer side rails have been worn away in the mid section of the chassis.
What is the ruling of replacing chassis side rails?

There's no ruling as such, other than they must be replaced with the same diameter and material. By time it has been cut and sleeved internally you will inevitably end up with a stiffer frame than in the first place, with a different overall flexing behaviour, but it boils down to practicality and the ethics of whether the frame is getting deliberately improved upon or not. All used old karts have a certain amount of flatting on the underside of the rails, it just depends on where you draw the line and replace them, which becomes a matter of opnion above all else, but I would always prefer the karts to be "fixed" only if really necessary.

Jeff.
