How best to paint exhaust?

The exhaust on my Villiers has seen better days and could do with a good blast and coating.
It has a hard 'enamel' on it at present and a lot of surface rust.

Once blasted, any ideas for a coating please?

hi 911hilclimber

I've always just used high temperature exhaust paint from my local motorcycle shop. Yes i keep having to do it from time to time but it is not a long job, works for me. It also works on my trials/hilllclimb car as well.

Hi Graham,

I’ve been using Plasti-kote BBQ paint for my exhausts, it seems a little thicker and easier to spray that some of the dedicated high temp exhaust paints, plus it’s available at most BIY shops. It can be applied directly to a cleaned / de-greased exhaust and is rated to 425 deg C, not sure how it compares on price though.

hi 911

goin back one message, yes it is just clean and paint, follow instructions on the can. Various manufacturers but a decent motorbike shop should be able to give you pros and cos of each one.

Elbow grease and thinners and brake cleaner to clean then and a coat of HTP then.
Should get rid of a few calories this weekend.

I also use High Temperature paint which I bought in a small tin from Halfords. It works really well with just one coat on exhausts and manifolds.
