Castle Hill Festival - August 2013

Post by briansa3 »

hi all

Castle Hill Festival - Barnstaple. 3rd/4th August

The BHKC is always pro-active on finding new events as a way of providing interest to members and this was the BHKC’s first hill climb event. Because this clashed with our Fulbeck track day in Lincolnshire, local member Richard Higgs took on the job of organising the event and by all accounts did a brilliant job. We were the only club to have a stand and provide live action with a dozen karts on the hill. Our wall display centred around the controversial Mayflower Anniversary Meeting held at Plymouth in 1973, famous for being stopped when they ran out of ambulance cover!! A surprising number of visitors actually remembered that meeting as spectators or in a few cases as competitors or mechanics.

Castle hill is a great venue and the indifferent weather failed to put off the visitors and there were plenty of interest and other karting stories.
It is an event worth considering in the future. It is in itself a new event and the organisers admit to going through a learning curve (as they are not corporate event organisers) and promise to fine tune the event to get the most out of everybody and even make the hill climb suitable for Class 1 karts.

Thanks to all who turned out for this one including the host, the Countess of Arran who paid us a visit.
