Hi Justin

Speaking to Simon Bateman at Sheeny about this.

For my 210, I have a 17 on the front with a 30 on back. He says I should have a 27 on the back instead for Cadwell.

Cheers Tim

Hi Richard,

I assume its just a straight ratio, i.e 15 x 27/17 = 24

I used a 17/26 ratio on my Villiers at the track eve last year and couldnt get out of 3rd along Park .
Funny thing was some old boy came up to us in the pits whilst we were getting the kart ready and said he used to race a Villiers and used 17/27 gearing, if only I'd listened to him
cheers

Thanks Mick. I was going to take my Vixen to Cadwell but a class one would be no good.

Yes that confirms what Andy was told... 27 / 17 = a ratio of 1.588

For us that run 15T on the front and either A. cant be bothered to chanege it or B. are mechanically inept (thats me ;)) it leaves the following as close:

24 / 15 = 1.600

better to be higher than lower though?

Hi Justin. As no one has responded to your 'higher or lower' question, I'll proffer my opinion for what it's worth. And take the flak from anyone who disagrees.... Lower. The worst that can happen is having to lift on the straight(s). Gear long and if the intermediates aren't close enough you will have to fully extend the motor every upshift. Just my opinion based on what I'd do face with the high or low dilemma. Alloybarrel seems to be the one with the appropriate practical experience. Cheers, F.
